Gag Me With A Spoon!

The last time that you could walk into a Chevrolet dealership and purchase a Chevy Malibu with a diesel variant “Every Breath You Take” by the police was probably playing on the radio back in 1983.

Even today those engines are considered to be some of the worst diesels you could buy in a brand new automobile.

Now it seems the 80’s have returned but with some changes; Sting in touring solo, flat hair is in, and you will soon be able to purchase a Chevrolet Malibu with a diesel motor.

Wait diesel fans don’t get your hopes to high, so far the diesel Malibu will only be sold in Europe giving a decent contender in highly competitive EU mid-size market.  Power is expected to come from two 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel which are not new to European General Motors buyers as both are currently offered on European Chevy Cruze, Opel Insignia (Buick Regal) and Opel Astra (Buick Verano).

Many in the automotive world discount the idea of the diesel powered Malibu getting a ships passage from Europe. General Motors has already begun production of a Cruze diesel for the states; if sales of that are strong a case could be for bringing a Malibu diesel variant to the states. That would give GM a strong contender over the Volkswagen Jetta TDI.
